The 8th IPCSB
We invite you, the interested PhD student or post-doctoral scientist, to participate in the 8th International Practical Course in Systems Biology, sponsored by FEBS. ICYSB will be an intense hands-on Systems Biology experience. The course focuses on general principles of systems analysis of dynamic cellular systems employing yeast as an experimental organism.
The course will be open for students with experimental and/or theoretical background. It is expected that students with different backgrounds will stimulate and support each other.
Systems Biology studies the properties and phenotypes that emerge from the interaction of biomolecules where such properties are not obvious from those of the individual molecules. By connecting fields such as genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, mathematics, cell biology, genetics, mathematics, engineering and computer sciences, Systems Biology enables discovery of yet unknown principles underlying the functioning of living cells. At the same time, testable and predictive models of complex cellular pathways and eventually of whole cells and organisms are generated as tools for research. ICYSB will provide a hands-on experience in integrating experimentation and mathematical modelling with an emphasis on kinetic modelling of cellular pathways. The course employs yeast as model system for experiments.
The course will start Monday 5 June at 9:00 (arrival on Sunday 4 June) and end on Friday 16 June at 13:00 (departure the same day). Hence the entire period is 12 days/nights. The daily program is planned to run from 08:30 to about 21:00 with lunch, dinner, coffee and fresh-air/motion breaks.
All students will have to present and discuss their project. In addition scientific presentations from some of the teachers and invited speakers will be integrated into the program. On the first day and on the Sunday evening of the course social events will be organised.
